How to Save Your Best ChatGPT Conversations

One of the best features of ChatGPT is that it remembers your history, but it can get messy if you don't organize it. Learning how to save and rename your conversations means you can easily find that great cookie recipe or that draft of your will months later. Think of it like a digital filing cabinet that sorts itself.

Step 1: Locate the History Bar Your past conversations aren't lost; they are listed on the side of the screen.

On a computer, look at the left-hand side of the screen. You will see a list of your recent chats. On a phone or tablet, you might need to tap the two lines in the top corner to open this menu. Scroll down to see what you talked about yesterday or last week.

Step 2: Rename Important Chats ChatGPT gives every conversation a generic name automatically, but you can change it to something you will remember.

Click on the chat you want to save. Look for three little dots (...) next to the name of the chat in the sidebar. Click those dots and select "Rename." Change "Recipe Suggestions" to something specific like "Christmas Cookie Recipes 2024." Now you can spot it at a glance.

Step 3: Delete the Clutter To keep your "filing cabinet" tidy, get rid of the chats you don't need anymore.

If you just asked a quick question like "How tall is the Eiffel Tower?" and don't need to save it, delete it. Click the same three dots (...) next to the chat name and select "Delete." Keeping your list clean makes it much easier to find the important stuff later.
