How to Use AI to Spot Phishing Emails
Phishing emails are fake messages designed to steal your passwords. Ironically, AI—the very tool scammers use—can also help you catch them. You can copy and paste a suspicious email into ChatGPT and ask it to analyze the text for danger signs. It acts like a second pair of eyes that never gets tired.
Step 1: Copy the Suspicious Text Do not click any links in the weird email.
Simply highlight the body of the email text with your mouse, right-click, and select "Copy." Be careful not to click on any "Verify Now" or "Login" buttons inside the email while you are doing this.
Step 2: Ask the AI Investigator Open ChatGPT and give it a job.
Type: "I received this email and I am suspicious. Please analyze it for signs of a scam or phishing." Then, paste the email text below your request.
Step 3: Read the Report ChatGPT will break down the email and point out the red flags.
It might say: "This email uses aggressive urgency ('Act now or lose your account'), it has grammatical errors typical of scams, and the sender address doesn't match the official bank name." This breakdown helps you see the trap so you can delete the email with confidence.
